National Chief selector Pramodya Wickramasnghe has said that young Sri Lankan team justified the selection process by winning the 3rd and final ODI against Bangladesh.
“We played with three debutants and if we lost this final match, everyone would have pointed their fingers at the selectors” he has told the Daily News.
“We always think about the youth and our policy is to focus on the 2023 World Cup but we have not forgotten the seniors as well” he went on to add.
He also said that the selection panel could have named a set of seniors and produced winning results and got the credit for that. However he said that it’s their policy to focus on the future.
“We played in Bangladesh with the cream of the current crop of players in Sri Lanka. We would have to give them that opportunity some day.” He further said.
