Netherlands pulled off an upset in the opener of the 2009 T20 World Cup as they beat hosts England by four wickets.

Netherlands needed 2 off the last ball, bowled by Stuart Broad, and Schiferli hit it back to the bowler. Broad threw and conceded overthrows, allowing Netherlands to sail home.

Earlier England scored 162-5 in 20 overs with top scorer by Luke Wright hammered a quick-fire 49-ball 71-runs including 8-fours with strike rate of 144.89 and Ravi Bopara struck 46 off 34-balls included five-fours with strike-rate of 135.29.

Netherlands chased 163-6 in 20 overs with top scorer by Tom de Grooth 49 – who fell one-run short of his half-century, Peter Borren 30, Ryan ten Doeschate 22 not out and Darron Reekers 20.

Tom de Grooth named Player of the match for his match-winning 49-runs knocked off facing 30-balls including 6-fours and a six with strike rate of 163.33.
