With just 3 days left for the scheduled departure for UK for the English tour, Sri Lanka Cricketers’ contract dispute has still not settled.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to depart for the UK on 8th June to take part in a limited overs tour comprising 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.
SLC had earlier announced 3rd June as the deadline to sign the annual contracts, but the players via their lawyer had issued several statements denying signing of the contracts citing discrepancies in contract grades as talks between the board and players failed to come to a settlement
Today ( 5th) the lawyer representing the cricketers told NewsWire that players will not sign the annual and tour contracts until a solution is given regarding the issues arisen with new player rating system.
“The tour contract also refers to matters of the annual contract for 2021. In the event the central contract is not settled and not finalised and dispute is pending, the validity of the tour contract is also an issue” Nishan Premathiratne, the lawyer representing the players went on to add.
The press release by the players also state that they are available to play the English tour as well as any other upcoming tours.
They also reiterated that even if the SLC refuses to pay them salaries citing not signing the contracts, they would still be available to play as their main objective is to play for the country. The players say that they do not want to sign an unfair contract.
