In a One Day International against England at the Adelaide Oval, Australian Umpire Ross Emerson wasn’t convinced with Murali’s bowling action, and proceeded to call no-ball on his delivery. This led to the game being halted for 12 minutes, with Sri-Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga threatening to leave the field along with the entire team.
In this moment, there was a heated argument between Arjuna and umpire Ross Emerson, and some words were shared by Arjuna which later had to be inquired by the ICC. In the inquiry vice captain Sanath Jayasuriya was called as the witness to explain what was said in the argument but Sanath cleverly saved Arjuna replying ‘I didn’t understand anything, I can’t speak or understand English’.
