Speaking in the virtual pre-match press conference, Sri Lanka ODI skipper Kusal Perera said that players had raised concerns about conducting a fitness while a tour is in progress.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) conducted fitness tests for Cricketers who are currently in Bangladesh, to participate in the 3-match ODI series.
“We were told that fitness tests were conducted aiming for the England tour. It was also revealed that several key players were not up to the expected levels. They are given an opportunity to prove themselves in another test which will be conducted once they are back in Sri Lanka.” Kusal further said.
If players pass this test, they will be eligible for selection for the English tour. Sri Lanka team is scheduled to leave for the UK on the 12th June, for a limited overs series comprising of 3 ODIs and 3 T20s.
All 18 players who are currently in the ODI squad, passed the fitness test which was conducted before the Bangladesh tour. Notable absence from the current squad is batsman Avishka Fernando, who failed the fitness test conducted prior to the Bangladesh tour.
