Sri Lanka Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksha has said that development of cricket is being done according to a plan and it is executed based on expert advice.
The Sports Minister shared these views while answering questions raised by a journalist in Kandy.
“We have prepared a long term plan to develop Sri Lanka Cricket. A young team was selected based on this plan. I think we need to give these youngsters a fair time to prove themselves” He said.
“There was no proper system in place to develop cricket in the past 5-6 years. It is not the case now. We have a proper system in place targeting the future.” He went on to say.
Sri Lanka team, currently in Bangladesh lost the 1st 2 ODIs against the hosts. With that, Bangladesh have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 match series. This is the first time they ever won a ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Namal Rajapaksha went on to say that development of the game is being done as per advice given by a set of ex-cricketers.
“There are experts who are involved in the planning. Aravinda De Silva, Muttiah Muralitharan, Roshan Mahanama and Kumar Sangakkara are part of this panel. We have given these ex-players a responsibility to put together a plan to develop cricket. I am sure they will succeed in formulating a plan to develop cricket in the future. We are obliged to implement their recommendations.” The sports minister further added.
