A dashing right-hand batsman and brilliant fielder Roshan Mahanama’s is best remembered as a cricketer for his world record second wicket partnership of 576 with Sanath Jayasuriya in a Test match against India at the R Premadasa Stadium in 1997. Apart from his batting skills he was also remembered for his iconic gesture when batting. Explaining the reason behind the gesture, Mahanama posted a story on his social media profile.
Most of you wonder why I did this little gesture almost every time I batted. This is a practice I had on the field to check the bat grip which eventually became a habit. Further, I perceived it as a good luck charm every time I batted and it became a signature gesture of mine. pic.twitter.com/lDb4itAmrF
